abrasive pad.
• Cut the 12 required
jumper wires to size, and
insert them from the top of
the board as shown in the
layout. Be sure to allow
enough length for the three
jumper wires that need to be
extended on the bottom of
the board. Except for the
jumper that extends from
location C16 to D16, solder
and snip the leads on the
bottom of the board. (You
will solder that jumper next!)
• Insert the bypass capacitor at locations
B15 and C15. Solder and snip its
leads. Also solder the jumper that
extends from location C16 to D16.
• Insert the discrete LED at locations
O2 and P2, so that its cathode
(shorter lead) is inserted at location
P2. Solder and snip its leads.
• Optional: If you want to solder the
PNA4602 directly to the stripboard,
now’s the time.
• Insert the two-digit LED display. Be
sure to orient it so that pin 1 is at
location E11 (i.e., the two decimal
points are aligned with row 11). Solder
and snip its leads.
• Insert the short ends of the two two-pin male headers from the top of the
board at the locations shown for
jumpers J6 and J7. Solder the pins on
the bottom of the board.
• If you prefer to sand or file any sharp
protrusions on the bottom of
the stripboard, do so at this
point in the assembly.
• Insert the long ends of the
two 10-pin reverse-mountable
headers from the top of the
board and solder the long
ends in place on the bottom
of the board, using as little
solder as possible so that the
pins will insert fully into the
corresponding female
headers on the main
stripboard.
• Clean the flux from the

later when we construct the 20M2 board.
A complete Parts List is presented in
Figure 6, and all the parts are available
on my website. The top and bottom
layouts of the board are shown in
Figure 7. A full-size pdf file
(LayoutLED.pdf) is available for
downloading at the article link. You may
find it easier to refer to the full-size
layout as you carry out the following
steps. As usual, read through the
following list of assembly instructions
to be sure you understand the entire
procedure before assembling the board.
ASSEMBLING THE
LED DISPLAY
STRIPBOARD CIRCUIT
Okay, we’re ready to construct our
two boards. We’ll do the LED display
board first because it will come in handy
• Cut and sand a piece of stripboard
to the required size ( 16 traces with 16
holes each).
